Job Description

AZ Locums is partnering with a 320-bed acute care hospital in the Richmond, Virginia metro to provide ongoing locum hospitalist coverage. This assignment is ideal for board-certified or board-eligible internal medicine physicians who enjoy collaborative inpatient medicine in a community hospital setting with manageable census and strong nursing support.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manage an average daily census of 12–16 adult inpatients with varied medical complexity
  • Perform admission histories and physicals, daily progress notes, and discharge planning
  • Respond to inpatient consults and coordinate care with subspecialists as needed
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds with case management and pharmacy
  • Document in the facility’s Cerner EMR; prior Cerner experience helpful but not required

Schedule & Coverage Model

Shifts run 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, seven days on / seven days off block schedule, with optional additional weeks available. No procedural requirements and no ICU ventilator management—critical care is covered by a separate intensivist group. Average length of stay is 3.8 days. Call from home is not required on this service.

The hospital is located minutes from downtown Richmond with easy access to I-95 and Richmond International Airport (RIC). Richmond offers a lower cost of living than many Mid-Atlantic markets, with historic neighborhoods, James River outdoor recreation, and a growing food and arts scene. On-site parking and physician lounge are provided.

Credentialing & Support

AZ Locums handles licensing, privileging, travel, and housing logistics. Virginia temporary license support is available for qualified candidates. Malpractice coverage is provided under the facility’s policy for the duration of the assignment. Weekly direct deposit with detailed pay statements.

Start date: Flexible — coverage needed within the next 30–60 days. Assignment length: Initial 13-week contract with extension likely based on performance and mutual fit.
